ESTABLISHED 1924
On December 26, 1924, believers and missionaries came together for a sacred service at Vepery, organizing a solemn celebration of Holy Communion.
Voices rose in hymns, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion. This gathering stood as a testament to their unwavering commitment to faith.
In 1936, the purchase of land on Brick Kiln Road dedicated a sacred resting place, becoming a symbol of remembrance for church members.
It remains an enduring landmark that upholds the spiritual and emotional bonds within the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church community.
In 1966, Reverend Steinhoff secured land for the church’s permanent location. This provided the stable foundation needed for a lasting place of worship.
His vision ensured a sacred space for generations to come, reaffirming the congregation’s commitment to faith and fellowship.
On February 11, 1973, the foundation stone was laid. After a year and a half of tireless work, the church structure was officially opened on June 23, 1974.
This beacon of hope remains a testament to the unity of its members, shaping the church’s legacy for the years ahead.
In 1985, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church underwent significant enhancements. A dedicated parsonage was built, providing a home for pastoral leadership.
Surrounding walls were erected to create a secure space, fostering a deeper sense of community and spiritual nourishment for generations to come.
By establishing two branch churches in Thirumulaivoyal and TR Palayam, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has grown its ministry over the years. Since then, Thirumulaivoyal has developed into an independently functioning IELC church. Meanwhile, the TR Palayam,
St. Mark Lutheran church continues to operate underthe guidance and support of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. This expansion reflects the commitment of GSLC to spread the message of faith and service, Ensuring that the light of the Gospel shines brightly in these communities. – 2018
